Please keep the Bed and Breakfast provision and consider local residents.
My name is Pamela Sue and I am soon to be 70 years old. I went to Middle School and HS on Oahu. I am single, I am a
local and the sole provider for myself. I work and travel from home for a health food company based in Memphis TN.
In 2016 at the age of 611 had saved enough money to make a cash purchase for a property in Puna on the Big Island. This
home would be for my retirement.
In 2021 It appeared the State of Hawaii was headed in the direction of vaccine mandates. Due to a vaccine injury I have
received medical advise to not take shots. and since my company requires me to travel for work I made a decision for the
sake of my health to leave Hawaii. I placed my home in the hands of a professional property manager who helped me list
the property in Airbnb, comply with the rules and hire accountants to pay the state, local and federal taxes.
The Airbnb experience has been positive with consistent 5 star reviews from guests. Listing the property has also raised a
standard in the neighborhood for responsible property ownership and cooperation within the community.
The only complaint we received was due to a porch light we changed and have not received any other complaints.
The income generated from my rental has provided income for local moms and retirees who provide cleaning and
maintenance services and has allowed me to travel and pay rent elsewhere to meet the needs of my company. I hope
someday I am able to afford to retire in my Big Island home. Social Security and the cost of living here makes it very
difficult which is why I keep working and listing with Airbnb. I am dependent on this income for my livelihood and ask
you take this into consideration to those like myself to continue to provide our property responsibly for vacationers.
Sincerely,
Pamela Sue
Into the Light!
