Subject: Bill 123 - Support County Council agenda 8/21/2024
Aloha County Council Chair and Members,
On behalf of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona I strongly support Bill 123 to amend the
County Code related to accessory dwelling units. This bill strengthens the ability for homeowners to
use their property to increase our much needed housing stock. Hopefully it will have the effect of
keeping young family members and others here on the island to work and contribute to our economy
and care for our kupuna. It may provide housing for our workforce who come to teach, protect
us, and work in the medical fields. I can provide income for our homeowners as well.
This bill allows for up to 3 ADU's and can be built in areas where the infrastructure is already in
place. CCR's going forward cannot restrict them. Only one can be used for short term housing.
Lenders understand the term accessory dwelling unit where there has been issues with applying for
loans to build "ohanas."
Mahalo for introducing Bill 123 and amending it to what it is today. Vote yes to Bill 123.
