HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0896.159 2022-2024From: Cindi Sent: Sunday, August 18, 2024 7:55 PM To: Council Testimony Subject: Oppose Bill 169 Aloha County Council Members I strongly oppose Bill 169, which grants a 10-year zoning extension for the Kona Three Project. This project proposes to build 450 residential units between Pualani Estates and Kona Vistas. The area is a floodplain, and any building in it is unsafe. Many county and state organizations are also opposing this development. Given its safety issues, it's illogical to consider building on this land. This project is opposed by: - County of Hawaii Cultural Resources Commission - County of Hawaii Kona Community Development Plan Action Committee - County of Hawaii Leeward Planning Commission - County of Hawaii Public Access, Open Space, & Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC) - Kona Soil and Water Conservation District (funded by the County of Hawaii R&D Department) - Ni Ala Hele Hawaii Trail and Access Program (DOFAW, DLNR) Please consider the impact on the Kealakehe Wastewater Treatment Plant, violating the Clean Water Act by dumping effluent into nearshore marine waters daily. I humbly ask that you oppose Bill 169, Draft 3, which is Kona Three LLC's request for a 10-year extension. The County Council should visit the site before making a decision.
