For the record 1 start with
American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Preample, "That the existence of the indigenous
cultures and peoples of the Americas is important to humanity;" and pg. 4 "RECOGNIZING ALSO
that respect for indigenous knowledge, cultures, and traditional practices contributes to sustainable and equitable
development and proper management of the environment;"
I would like to start with Rebecca's Please SUPPORT Communication 896.150, for a full Council site visit. Walk Kona
and please understand that we need all of your support. This is a no brainer.... when you see all those who oppose this
project below.
This project is OPPOSED by:
• County of Hawai'i Cultural Resources Commission
• County of Hawaii Kona Community Development Plan Action Committee
• County of Hawai'i Leeward Planning Commission
• County of Hawai'i Public Access, Open Space, & Natural Resources Preservation Commission (PONC)
• Kona Soil and Water Conservation District (funded by the County of Hawai'i R&D Department)
• Na Ala Hele Hawaii Trail and Access Program (DOFAW, DLNR)
• Volunteer, unpaid Archeologists
• Hundreds, if not thousands, of residents living and working in this area.
As a healthcare provider, I continue to state that the sewer system is not set up, nor will that sewage plant ever be
able to stop the million gallons of feces that is going into our harbor daily. It is not responsible for any of you to vote
to support this bill. We have said no over and over. We need to clean up the waters, look at something that can
work for feces removal, like how Hawaiians did it since the beginnings... composting it. Years ago when Go Airlines
was active, I sat on the plane with an expert who came from the states to again look at the treatment plant, he told
me that it will never work, there is no solution for it. All development in this area needs to be stopped because not
only because of sewer and traffic, people not able to get to hospitals that are already overwhelmed because they
can not deal with how many people they already have but also because the hospitals are not able to take care of
many situations because of lack of technology that they use. Med vac is only solution and most will have to wait
for hours to transport. When you come on your visit, maybe you want to have lunch at Kohanaiki and on your way
to that nice beach, you will go past their sewage treatment station, you wilt smell it. They have tried and tried to
make it better, but we live on rock so no can work.
Most importantly is this project would affect many archaeological sites, flood zone is another
problem. Please OPPOSE Bill 169, draft 3, Kona Three LLC's request for a 10-year time extension. Please
