SUBJECT: Renewal Permit for KV3
Thank you all for your dedication and hard work. It is appreciated. Thank you, too, for acting in
good faith in representing the will of the people of Hawai'i County.
I have been following the current KV3 Permit request issue from the beginning. Based on
residents' testimonies, Letters to the WHT Editor, recommendations from the Cultural Resources
Commission, etc., etc., it is clear that there is nearly unanimous agreement to reject this permit
renewal. The reasons given by this community for rejection are many and varied. You all have
been very patient listening for so long to the long list of those opposed. The one reason given
consistently by those who favor the renewal is "Affordable Housing". That's basically it.
How do you weigh these overwhelming appeals to stop KV3, that arise from so many different
people, with different perspectives against this single -issue opposition? Especially when there
will not be anything "affordable" built in this project! The most recent 2-year study of the
effectiveness of the Affordable Housing Credit System concluded that the System has not been
effective in increasing affordable housing, and recommended that the System be scrapped. The
credits that have been granted over time cannot even be audited or traced due to the
machinations of the developers involved, including owners of KV3.
Please do not ignore the importance of the authentic concerns of the residents - traffic, water
shortages, cultural resources, infrastructure, etc., etc. (too many to mention again). These are
real reasons, we all know they are real reasons. Please do not renew this permit.
PS: This land is a FLOODPLAIN.
