Subject: Testimony for Bill 174
I am in support of this bill as it incentivizes people to rent their ADU and ohana units long term by allowing them to be
taxed at the much lower homeowner tax rate. This will offset the loss of income they face in converting from STIR to JR.
It will also help those of us already in this situation, who continue to see our property taxes go up and have to pass those
increases onto the tenants, in turn making rentals unaffordable to the average family.
My property taxes have gone up over $7,000 a year in the 6 years since I purchased my property. Unfortunately, |amno
longer able to absorb the annual increases along with the increase in utilities and property maintenance. /desperate|y
want to keep my ADU as a LTR, but may be forced to switch to STR just to make enough to cover the ever growing costs.
We have an extreme rental crisis and this is one positive step to help address this situation helping both land owners and
tenants.
