Subject: Testimony in support of Resolution 562-24 - EVs for the County fleet
Dear Members of Hawaii County Council:
This is my testimony in strong support of Res. 562-24,which authorizes the Mayor to enter
into a ten-year [ease agreement with an approximate monthly cost $8,357, to replace the
County's disposed shared -use electric vehicle fleet with eight new electric vehicles.
I live in Hilo and I vote in every election. I bought a two-year old Kia
Niro EV 1.5 years ago and feel lucky to have been able to do so. I also
bought a Level 2 charger for my carport. lamlucky tohave that as
well.
The procurement of EVs for the County is Long overdue. The County has a commitment to
electrify its fleet, but little has been done beyond the first five plug-in hybrids over a decade
ago. This project will allow for the deployment of EVs and a shared vehicle model for the
County. The county needs to Lead the change to EVs by example, to take more aggressive
steps to reduce transportation emissions and pollution, and to meet its commitments to a
clean energy future.
Pie , ase vote in favor of Res. 562-24 and any other measures the
County can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
