COUNTY OF HAWAIJ STATE OF HAWAIJ
RESOLUTION NO. 610 24
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY AND THE COUNTY CLERK TO IMPROVE THE FUNCTIONALITY
OF THE COUNTY WEBSITE TO PROMOTE PUBLIC ACCESS TO THE
LEGISLATIVE PROCESS.
WHEREAS, the County's website is an invaluable tool for greater openness and
transparency in government actions, and provides an opportunity for citizens of all ages to learn
about and engage with the legislative process; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that the current design and user interface of the County's
website is in need of various improvements to better serve the public as a platform for
information and participation relating to the legislative process; and
WHEREAS, the measure tracking capability of the Hawaii State Legislature website is
a high -quality example to model potential improvements on; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAIII that this
body hereby requests the Director of Information Technology and the County Clerk to develop
and implement various improvements to the County of Hawaii website that expand accessibility
and functionality for the public to view and track proposed legislation through the legislative
process, including, but not limited to, a summary description, dates of previous and upcoming
hearings, recorded votes and actions, dates of presentation to the Mayor and mayoral action, final
disposition of a measure, and other relevant information.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Honorable Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County of Hawai`i; and Robert C.
Ewbank, Director of Information Technology.
