Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs,to which was referred
Resolution No. 592-24,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 592-24,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication
No. 992, dated August 14, 2024, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawai`i Department of Taxation.
This resolution authorizes the Mayor to enter into a memorandum of agreement to share
confidential tax return information relating to the administration of the State and County of
Hawai`i's Transient Accommodations Tax (TAT).
Finance Deputy Director Aaron Brown and TAT Internal Controls Manager Wilson Crider were
present in Chambers to provide comment on and answer questions about the resolution.
Member Heather L. Kimball asked for clarification as to which way the data sharing would be
going, as she felt it was unclear in the resolution. Deputy Brown explained that the State of
Hawai`i would mainly be providing the County with the filing information.
Several members spoke in favor of the resolution.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Resolution No. 592-24, and recommends its adoption.
