Subject: Bill 121 draft3 re short term vacation rentals
We are farmers in South Kona and have relied on our vacation rental as income for our family and at times to pay farm
expenses. We are in our 80s. The state and county take almost 20 percent of our income from our home rental. Property
taxes are high. Maintenance is expensive. Buyers from outside Hawaii have purchased homes here and nearly ruined the
short term rental market. STVRs are a viable source of income for many older folks and have been for years. Our
suggestion is to stop issuing NEW permits. Grandfather in permits for rentals in good standing perhaps through 2020.
