meeting Tuesday, September 3, 9:OOAM - written testimony
Aloha Members of the Hawaii Cty planning commission,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposal to further"restrict
short term vacation rentals, particularly concerning the proposed increase in
renewal fees for short-term vacation rentals and the phasing out of short-term
rentals in any zone. As a resident and kupuna of Pahoa, Hawaii, I am deeply
concerned about the potential negative impact of this bill on me and my
community.
I own a short-term vacation rental (STVR) in Kona, which I purchased as an
investment opportunity to help support me and my wife in retirement, as well
as to provide our children with an asset that we can leave them upon our
passing. However, the provisions would financially harm not only me but also
the individuals who rely on the STVR industry for their livelihoods, such as my
housekeeper and handyman.
I urge you to consider the significant impact that your proposals will have on
the residents and workers in our community. The proposed measures could
disrupt the livelihoods of not only STVR owners but also those who depend on
the industry for employment. It is essential to carefully evaluate the potential
consequences of this bill, particularly its effects on local families and the
broader community. So I happy you voted to do a study to look at the impact
the industry has on the local economy. But I am tried of you having these on
going meetings with short notice. It seems you don't want testimony from
ordinary people only the hotel lobby.
I kindly request that you take into account the voices of individuals like myself
and reconsider these provisions and restrictions.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I appreciate your efforts in
making informed decisions that support the well-being of our community. I
kindly request that you do NOT pass this bill. Comna. $1 U1 S . LW
