As the owner of a licensed Un-Hosted STVR NUC, since the new laws were passed for Un-Hosted
STVR's in 2018, I've been waiting for Hawaii County's Council, Mayor and Planning Department to
enforce their new law and stop thousands of illegal Un-Hosted rentals from opening and operating
island wide. I see new Un-Hosted rentals online weekly. I can't lower my nightly rates low enough to
compete with so many competitors that operate illegally. It's been really unfair to those of us that went
through the licensing process and play by the rules.
My Wife and I live on the lot next door to our STVR NUC and have always taken a lot of pride in
offering a safe licensed STVR for our guests. I've had a star rating since opening in 2018. We spend
all of the money from our STVR right here in Hawaii County.
I've also always felt that if I have to maintain a license and play by the rules, All Owner Hosted,
Operator Hosted and Un-Hosted STVR owners and operators should also go through a licensing
process and play by the rules.
I also feel that hosting platforms should be required to play by the rules and only allow licensed
STVR's to advertise on their web sites. All online advertisements should require a license number.
I fully support SB 121 in it's current draft and I'm looking forward to it being passed and fully enforced
as soon as possible, like in early September.
