Aloha council,
As a long term resident, owner, and real estate agent on the Big Island, 1 have seen and witnessed first hand the benefit
of Short Term Renting for many in the industry as home owners, property managers, cleaners, handyman, plumbers and
electricians, and significantly impact tourism. Additionally, those who have Ohana's, ADU's, extra bedrooms and the like
who are homeowners are depended up the income generated by their rentals to supplement their income and help pay
their mortgages. This is something I was planning and hoping to do on my property and the impact of this bill could very
well affect the financial standing of my family along with those we would hire to help successfully run and Airbnb
operation.
Make no mistake, I am all for affordable housing and more opportunity for homeownership and have also witnessed first
hand the difficulties Hawai'i resident have finding a place to live. The burden to help meet this demand of affordability
should not be placed on the backs of Hawaii homeowners but help from the County of Hawaii greening lighting more
development for single family residence, condos, and affordable housing. More supply to hit the market will be beneficial
for all.
Mahalo for your consideration. -
