ROLL CALL: Present: Ms. Cindy Evans, Chair Ms. Susan L. K. Lee Loy, Vice Chair (via videoconference from Hilo) Ms. Michelle M. Galimba, Member Mr. Holeka Goro Inaba, Member Ms. Jenn Kagiwada, Member (via videoconference from Hilo) Mr. Matt Kdneali`i-Kleinfelder, Member (via videoconference from Hilo) Ms. Ashley L. Kierkiewicz, Member Ms. Heather L. Kimball, Member Ms. Rebecca Villegas, Member STATEMENTS The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, FROM THE Statements from the Public on Agenda Items. COMMUNI- The Chair directed the Committee to proceed to the next order of business, CATIONS: Communications. GOEAC-37 August 20, 2024 Comm. 974: NOMINATION OF JANET SIX TO THE HAWAI`I COUNTY CULTURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated August 1, 2024, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Vote on Comm. 974: Ms. Kierkiewicz moved to recommend confirmation of the (Approved) nomination of Ms. Janet Six to the Hawaii County Cultural Resources Commission. Seconded by Mr. Inaba and carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Galimba, Inaba, Kagiwada, Kdneali`i-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Villegas, and Chair Evans — 9. Noes: None. Absent: None. Excused: None. Executive Assistant to the Mayor Pomaika`i Bartolome came forward and provided a brief narrative of the nominee's background and experience. Committee Members spoke in favor of the appointment. Comm. 975: NOMINATION OF MELVIN VENTURA TO THE LIQUOR COMMISSION From Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, dated August 1, 2024, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Requires Council Confirmation by: September 14, 2024 (Section 13-4(k), Hawaii County Charter) Motion to Close File: Mr. Inaba moved to close file on Comm. 975. Seconded by Ms. Galimba. CHR. EVANS: Thank you. Member Kierkiewicz. MS. KIERKIEWICZ: Thank you, Chair. Mr. Ventura is really an outstanding individual, but I will be recusing myself from this particular vote. Mr. Ventura is the Board Chair for the nonprofit Nd Leo `O Hawai`i, and I am President and CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of that particular organization. So, recusing myself from deliberations in voting. Thank you, Chair. Page 2 GOEAC-37 Vote on Comm. 975: The motion to recommend confirmation of the nomination (Approved) of Mr. Melvin Ventura to the Liquor Commission was carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Galimba, Inaba, Kagiwada, Kdneali'i-Kleinfelder, Kimball, Lee Loy, Villegas, and Chair Evans — 8. Noes: None. Absent: None. Excused: Committee Member Kierkiewicz — 1. Roth, dated August 1, 2024, requesting the Council's review and confirmation. Requires Council Confirmation by: September 14, 2024 (Section 13-4(k), Hawal'i County Charter) Vote on Comm. 976: Mr. Inaba moved to recommend confirmation of the (Approved) nomination of Mr. Taysen Wong Chong to the Game Management Advisory Commission. Seconded by Ms. Galimba and carried by the following voice vote: Ayes: Committee Members Galimba, Inaba, Kagiwada, Kdneali'l-Kleinfelder, Kierkiewicz, Kimball, Lee Loy, Villegas, and Chair Evans — 9.
