HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 638 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FEED HAWAII
DBA KOHALA FOOD HUB FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE NORTH KOHALA FARM TO FAMILY PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to grow a sustainable regional food system by providing essential services and resources
for local food producers and increasing community access to fresh, healthy food; and
WHEREAS, the Kohala Food Hub’s Veggie Rx program serves households that demonstrate financial need as defined as having an income 200% or lower than the Federal Poverty Guidelines for
Hawaiʻi, and those household’s with people suffering chronic health conditions that would be improved by eating more fruits and vegetables; and
WHEREAS, the Veggie Rx program will end on August 31, 2024, due to the end of the USDA GusNIP funding cycle; and
WHEREAS, the North Kohala Farm-to-Family Project will serve as a bridge to continue the Veggie Rx program, by providing free produce from local farmers on a bi-weekly basis to approximately
200 individuals residing in 50 qualifying households, until more private, state, or federal funding for health food access can be secured; and
WHEREAS, the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is requesting funds to purchase local produce such as fruits and vegetables and produce bags, plastic bags, paper bags, and twist ties for
the North Kohala Farm-to-Family Project; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide community projects in a drug- and alcohol-free environment such as the Kohala Farm-to-Family Project; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub for expenses related to the North Kohala Farm-to-Family Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
