HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 671 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KUʻIKAHI MEDIATION
CENTER INC., FOR ITS COLLABORATION, LEADERSHIP, AND TEAMWORK TRAINING SERIES.
WHEREAS, Kuʻikahi Mediation Center Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower individuals, organizations, and communities to manage conflict through its
mediation, facilitation, training, and education services; and
WHEREAS, between 50-60% of those who utilize mediation services have an annual household income of under $20,000 and specialized leadership trainings can be costly or inaccessible to
those who may benefit from them; and
WHEREAS, investing in well-trained and successful local leaders, with dynamic and innovative problem-solving capabilities, has been shown to create pathways of support for a stronger
and more resilient economy in Hawai‘i County; and
WHEREAS, Kuʻikahi Mediation Center Inc., fills a unique need in providing an opportunity for staff and leadership development through its Collaboration, Leadership, and Teamwork Training
Series, which offers eight free training sessions beginning in October 2024 through June 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Collaboration, Leadership, and Teamwork Training Series is designed to develop individuals, teams, and leaders in public, private, and non-profit sectors by providing education
on effective collaborative processes, leadership development, team strategies, and change management skills to help individuals face complex societal issues; and
WHEREAS, the Kuʻikahi Mediation Center Inc., is requesting funds to assist with a program coordination staff for its Collaboration, Leadership, and Teamwork Training Series; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports identifying areas of need within the community and working collaboratively with nonprofits to address these needs and implement
solutions; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide
a grant to the Kuʻikahi Mediation Center Inc., to assist with expenses relating to its Collaboration, Leadership, and Teamwork Training Series.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
