Aloha,
|'d Like to SUbDDb my testimony in regards to new restrictions to existing short term [8nt8\S and other
transient accommodations.
CurrentLy the requirement to Live on the same property is enough to keep single families in homes and
rentats while also being abLe to earn some extra income. Currently hosts pay at Least 18% to the state
and county for renting out something that beLongs to them in taxes. The property is aLso being taxed
yearly iOproperty tax.
Hosts should be abte to have a rental unit on the property they own and share with whom they want for
no additional fees. The opportunity to earn some income by residents and homeowners from sharing
their owned property with travelers is an excellent opportunity in a Limited and rural. county of Hawaii.
I agree with the view that there is a shortage of single family homes, however adding new fees and
limitations to Local. famiLies who own property here is not the first line of recovery for these homes. This
directly takes earnings out of the hands of single family homeowners. So many are teachers, carpenters,
in the food service industry who are trying to afford their infLated mortgages and rents by renting out part
Oftheir hOnOeS/prOp8[ti8S.
Pie8Se dOadd any more fees tOthe already high amount hosts are paying.
ThonhyDu,
Rhea Asuncion
