Aloha Hawai'i County PCPLUD Committee,
Please do not further restrict and regulate short-term rentals in Puna County where there are not ` - ' other
opportunities for visitors to experience a stay in rural Hawaii that also supports local residents. There are no
hotels in the Ka|apana, Nairnu, and Kehena Beach communities, due to the lava threat, so continuing to a||ovv
law-abiding citizens to share their home totravelers would be extremely helpful in allowing those of us
invested in the hospitality industry to help make ends meet while supporting ag[i-culturaltOuri6N0.
| have lived in Hawaii County for the |3St 21 years, and helping property rD3O8ge homes for Hawaii Resident
owners to allow for visitors to experience a healthy outdoor -focused vacation over the last 6 years has been
instrumental inhelping noeafford tocover food + living costs unthe Big Island.
Before moving forward with new regulations, please recognize the need for more information as discussed in
the passed resolution to conduct an economic impact study on the effects of short-term rentals on the
economy, which often varies from county tocounty. Having blanket restrictions does not serve those ofus
who have been following the rules + working tOearn 8living helping local home owners cover their home
costs, as well as assisting family + friends who want to visit us to connect with other homeowners to have
them stay inthe neighborhood nearby.
Our livelihood in Hawaii depends on our ability to use our homes to host family, friends + visitors to make
ends meet. Please don't take that away from us without due research + innputfrono those affected by this
potentially devastating decision.
