I wish that I and my fifty friends from the Kona side could be there to testify on
Thursday in Hilo. But we strongly want this noted that we are against the General Plan
(GP) BILL 181 D2. It doesn't address community concerns (Cultural landscapes,
environmental impact, affordable housing, open spaces, and economic diversity). This
bill 181 D2 will NOT give THE CITIZENS a chance to alter the GP and have an
involvement in what happens to our island in the future!
The GP promotes development without clarity, loopholes, favorable outcomes for
offshore investors, urban densification, and sprawl. Being vague will not protect the
regeneration of Hawaii cultural landscape and land -to -sea relationships.
The General Plan is very unclear, we are sure you too can see this. The GP doesn't
produce useful, considerate rules or regulations to protect Hawai'i from becoming
another Lahaina, meaning needing a water diversion plan, with it's overdevelopment,
over -tourism, and over -gated and exclusive wealthy communities, and not enough
affordable homes..
I SENT IN MY LETTER YESTERDAY AND MISUNDERSTOOD THAT THE GP IS THE
SAME AS BILL 181 D2, WHICH I AND MY FIFTY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE
OPPOSED TO.
Please listen with your hearts to our reasons and DO NOT support Bill 181 D2,
Leslee Cook and fifty of my friends and family on The Big Island
