COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />•f�rE•ur.N►'d� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 683 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE MARINE <br />MAMMAL CENTER FOR ITS MARINE SCIENCE AND CONSERVATION <br />PROGRAMS WITH KE KAI OLA. <br />WHEREAS, Marine Mammal Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was <br />created to rehabilitate and release injured, ill, or abandoned marine mammals, and to advance <br />ocean health through its work in marine mammal rescue, rehabilitation, research, and education; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Ke Kai Ola is a marine mammal hospital and education facility operated by <br />the Marine Mammal Center, whose primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release <br />Hawaiian monk seals and provide medical care, veterinary treatment and a safe space for sick, <br />injured or malnourished monk seals to recover; and <br />WHEREAS, Ke Kai Ola is partnering with Kealakehe High School from October <br />through December 2024, to provide work -based marine science and conservation education, that <br />focuses on Hawaiian monk seal conservation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Marine Mammal Center is requesting funds to assist with expenses for <br />materials, supplies, and costs such as orientation packets, travel to and from Kealakehe High <br />School, Ke Kai Ola, and on -island field trip locations, snacks and refreshments; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs and activities that <br />promote education and well-being in a drug -free and alcohol -free environment, such the Marine <br />Mammal Center's marine science and conservation programs. <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Marine Mammal Center to assist with expenses for its <br />marine science and conservation programs with Ke Kai Ola. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
