COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 684 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAIJ KEIKI <br />MUSEUM FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO SIGNAGE AT ITS MUSEUM IN <br />WAIKOLOA. <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br />mission is to develop island science literacy, inspire curiosity and innovation, and spark a <br />lifelong passion for learning through interactive exhibits and engaging activities for children <br />during their foundational years; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum has been serving the community since 2022 and <br />has recently opened its museum at a new location in Waikoloa earlier this year; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is a science museum with exhibits and activities <br />that are focused on science specific to Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is in the process of creating standardized <br />signage for its facility and exhibits, which will include researching appropriate themes that are <br />culturally sensitive to Pacific Islanders, appropriate use of '61elo, and are user friendly for both <br />children and adults; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Keiki Museum is requesting funds to purchase a plotter printer <br />and to cover expenses for a researcher, graphic designer, and printing services to create signage <br />for its museum in Waikoloa; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that provide <br />educational projects and activities in a drug- and alcohol -free environment such as the Hawaii <br />Keiki Museum; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAIJ that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Hawaii Keiki Museum for expenses relating to signage <br />at its museum in Waikoloa. <br />
