HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 684 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAIʻI KEIKI MUSEUM FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO SIGNAGE AT ITS MUSEUM IN WAIKOLOA. WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop island science literacy, inspire curiosity and innovation, and spark a lifelong passion for learning through interactive exhibits and engaging activities for children during their foundational years; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum has been serving the community since 2022 and has recently opened its museum at a new location in Waikoloa earlier this year; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is a science museum with exhibits and activities that are focused on science specific to Hawaiʻi Island; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is in the process of creating standardized signage for its facility and exhibits, which will include researching appropriate themes that are culturally sensitive to Pacific Islanders, appropriate use of ʻōlelo, and are user friendly for both children and adults; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is requesting funds to purchase a plotter printer and to cover expenses for a researcher, graphic designer, and printing services to create signage for its museum in Waikoloa; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that provide educational projects and activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment such as the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum for expenses relating to signage at its museum in Waikoloa. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General       AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $6,500       OUT AND FROM:    010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $6,500      CREDITED TO:    010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $6,500   Public Programs    115 Misc. Contract Services    (Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum – Signage)    BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
