HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 703 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAIʻI KEIKI MUSEUM FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE COORDINATION AND FACILITATION OF THE K-12 EDUCATION WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT. WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop island science literacy, inspire curiosity and innovation, and spark a lifelong passion for learning through interactive exhibits and engaging activities for children during their foundational years; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is building on the work initiated at the 2024 Sustainability Summit from the Green Workforce Development and the County of Hawai‘i Youth Congress working groups to create space for dialogue where educators and the educational community can orchestrate ways to prioritize solutions to critical concerns in creating a sustainable education system; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is working in conjunction with educators across Hawai‘i Island to coordinate and facilitate the K-12 Education Workforce Development project, which will consist of five talk-story sessions for educators to share innovative approaches to bridge the gap between limited educational resources and local challenges; and WHEREAS, the sessions will be held in Ka‘ū, Hilo, Kona, Hāwī, and Puna between October 2024 and May 2025; and WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum is requesting funds to cover expenses for the five sessions, including printed session materials and office supplies, food and non-alcoholic beverages for participants, and travel mileage for two facilitators; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports innovations that help to balance Hawai‘i Island’s economic, social, community, and environmental well-being, including opportunities to implement strategic actions as set forth in the State of Hawai‘i 2050 Sustainability Plan; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum for expenses relating to the coordination and facilitation of the K-12 Education Workforce Development project. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General       AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $3,625       OUT AND FROM:    010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $3,625      CREDITED TO:    010.161.5162.98 Department of Research and Development $3,625   HI County Resource Center    115 Misc. Contract Services    (Hawaiʻi Keiki Museum – K-12 Education Workforce Development Project)    BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
