J�tIt Of M?k7 COUNTY OF HAWAII `• STATE OF HAWAII e �f NA M4. ,rEOf H►'� RESOLUTION NO. 0"1 Z4 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIG ISLAND MEDIATION, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS PEER MEDIATION TRAINING. WHEREAS, Big Island Mediation, Inc., DBA West Hawaii Mediation Center (WHMC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower individuals, organizations, and communities to deal with conflict by providing mediation, facilitation, and education services; and WHEREAS, the WHMC Peer Mediation program teaches peer mediation and youth conflict resolution skills at West Hawaii public and private schools, which teachings entail the nature of conflict, typical ways to respond, recognizing and managing difficult emotions, learning communication skills and understanding and respecting differences - and impart how to use these skills to resolve conflict among peers in school settings; and WHEREAS, Big Island Mediation, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with expenses for Peer Mediation training, specifically for salary and wages for the training staff and additional training staff support, training staff mileage expenses, and printing and snack expenses for the trainings, for the time period of October 2024, through December 2024; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports domestic and family violence prevention and intervention initiatives by identifying areas of need and working collaboratively with other criminal justice agencies and community programs; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Big Island Mediation, Inc., for expenses related to its Peer Mediation training. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
