J�tIt Of M?k7 <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII `• STATE OF HAWAII <br />e <br />�f NA M4. <br />,rEOf H►'� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 0"1 Z4 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO BIG ISLAND <br />MEDIATION, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS PEER <br />MEDIATION TRAINING. <br />WHEREAS, Big Island Mediation, Inc., DBA West Hawaii Mediation Center (WHMC) <br />is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower individuals, organizations, <br />and communities to deal with conflict by providing mediation, facilitation, and education <br />services; and <br />WHEREAS, the WHMC Peer Mediation program teaches peer mediation and youth <br />conflict resolution skills at West Hawaii public and private schools, which teachings entail the <br />nature of conflict, typical ways to respond, recognizing and managing difficult emotions, <br />learning communication skills and understanding and respecting differences - and impart how to <br />use these skills to resolve conflict among peers in school settings; and <br />WHEREAS, Big Island Mediation, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with expenses for <br />Peer Mediation training, specifically for salary and wages for the training staff and additional <br />training staff support, training staff mileage expenses, and printing and snack expenses for the <br />trainings, for the time period of October 2024, through December 2024; and <br />WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports domestic and family <br />violence prevention and intervention initiatives by identifying areas of need and working <br />collaboratively with other criminal justice agencies and community programs; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br />Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Big Island Mediation, Inc., for expenses related to its <br />Peer Mediation training. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
