RESOLUTION NO. 708 24.
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KAHALU`U
KUAHEWA FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF THE WAHI KUPUNA KAHALU`U
FIELD SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, Kahalu`u Kuahewa is a 501(c)(3) community -based, nonprofit organization
whose mission is to uplift the collective of aina, community, and culture, and preserve ancestral
knowledge by reconnecting people to the land; and
WHEREAS, Kahalu`u Kuahewa is working to revitalize the wahi kupuna (ancestral site)
Kahalu`u Field System as a traditional Hawaiian agricultural landscape through indigenous
grassroots iniatives and sustainable restorative agricultural practices that reconnects kanaka to
`aina; and
WHEREAS, Kahalu`u Kuahewa is requesting funds for materials and supplies (gas, oil,
propane, grass cutting line, compost, fertilizer and input materials, pots, potting soil, tools, etc.)
for maintenance of the trails, fence, water catchment, nursery, and invasive weeds, as well as
printing resources, gloves, and refreshments for community engagement; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that
promote the health, safety, and welfare of communities in a drug -free and alcohol -free
environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Kahalu`u Kuahewa for the revitalization of the wahi kupuna
Kahalu`u Field System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
