COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 726 24 <br />A RESOLUTION AWARDING A PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, AND NATURAL <br />RESOURCES PRESERVATION MAINTENANCE FUND STEWARDSHIP GRANT TO <br />tiT_\C�► ID1t7:�i1►1[f7►1010 1 Iv"I"L <br />WHEREAS, Section 10-15 of the Charter of the County of Hawaii (Hereinafter <br />"Charter") provides for a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund <br />(hereinafter "Preservation Fund") to acquire lands and easements within the County for public <br />outdoor recreation, education, the preservation of land and coastal areas, and the protection of <br />natural resources; and <br />WHEREAS, Section 10- 16 of the Charter establishes a Public Access, Open Space, and <br />Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund (hereinafter "Maintenance Find") to be used <br />in part for a stewardship grant program, in which 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can apply for <br />and receive grant-in-aid finding for stewardship projects directly related to public safety <br />maintenance and preservation of lands and easements acquired using the Preservation Fund; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawai`iTarmers Union Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization <br />whose mission is to support Hawaii farmers in creating and sustaining vibrant and prosperous <br />agricultural communities for the benefit of all Hawaii through various scientific, educational, <br />and charitable activities; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation applied for a Maintenance Fund <br />stewardship grant to maintain a healthy stewardship of the land identified by Tax Map Key No. <br />(3) 5-5-015:042, also known as Banyan Trees Park, which is situated in the district of North <br />Kohala and was acquired using the Preservation Fund as authorized by Resolution No. 332-14; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-217 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, <br />as amended), the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission, <br />during its meeting on September 11, 2023, recommended that this stewardship grant be awarded; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, funds awarded by this stewardship grant will be used to support ongoing <br />maintenance efforts on the property and to develop a management plan that reflects and <br />incorporates community input and engagement; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in <br />accordance with Section 10-16(h) of the Charter, a stewardship grant is hereby awarded to <br />Hawaii Farmers Union Foundation in the amount of $56,900 out of and from the Public Access, <br />
