To the Chairman and County Council:
The County Council has the significant responsibility of being entrusted with developing and
establishing policies which will impact the future development of Hawaii County. Each of you
were obviously chosen for your ability to judge and guide the development of the County of
Hawaii. As appreciative citizens, thanks is offered to you for your generous contribution of
time, expertise and effort on behalf of the those who love this Island and call it home.
In regard to Bridge Puako's application for a resolution approving timeshare, the communities of
the Mauna Lani Resort, Puako, and the Mauna Kea Resort, which is a representation of over
1000 residents who feel that the developer's request is inappropriate and should be denied for
the following reasons:
• The proposed timeshare development of 750 units is essentially a "resort" and
inappropriate in an area zoned residential. Other island counties have strictly controlled
timeshare within designated visitor destination areas. Timeshare developers are desperate for
more inventory in the state of Hawaii and have targeted the Big Island because of our
county's extremely lax zoning code.
• There are inadequate environmental impact studies.
• There are conflicting opinions on adequate water availability which absolute need to 013

• The traffic study is inadequate and recommendations fvr a warrant study for a signal
have not been addressed.
We appeal to your good judgment, your sensitivity, and your commitment to the people of this
island to render wise decisions in regard to best use of the land, and that you unanimously deny
the application.
