Council Testimony
Oppose Bill 169, Kona Three LLC
Please vote No on Bill 169, Kona Three LLC
Enough is enough. This project was originally approved 40 years ago --under vastly different
circumstances than today.
PONC has the opportunity to purchase this historically important Land. It should be
preserved for cultural, historical, and public benefits.
Due to many, many concerns the Kona Three project should not be built at all. It should
certainty not be approved for another ten years without starting with an entirety new, "blank
state" evaluation.
Please do not allow this current project to continue for another ten years. The project is
opposed by the County's own experts and funded agencies:
• Cultural, Resources Commission
• Leeward Planning Commission
• Kona Community Development Plan Action Committee
• PONC: Public Access, Open Space, & Natural Resources Preservation Committee
• Kona Soil and Water Conservation District
At the State level, the project is also opposed by the Na Ala Hete Hawaii Trail and Access
Program (DOFAW, DLNR).
Recent rain events underscored the damage caused by flooding and runoff. The entire KaiLua
Kona coast is in a fragile state due to runoff and sewage/cesspool issues. Kona Three will
make this worse.
At the Community level, the project is heavily opposed by members of the public, including
Archaeologists who have spoken up voluntarily out of their concern for this site.
MahaLo to you for putting community welfare at the heart of your decision making.
