A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIʻI RISE FOUNDATION
TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO THE 28TH ANNUAL KWXX HO‘OLAULE‘A.
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Rise Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides educational services, programs, and support for the vulnerable, moderate- and low-income families,
children, and elderly; and
WHEREAS, KWXX FM is a radio station that is hosting its 28th Annual KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a on January 18, 2025, in downtown Hilo; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Rise Foundation is working with KWXX FM to increase awareness of the culture and history of Hawai‘i Island by presenting the annual KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a, a free block party
with live entertainment featuring contemporary and traditional music and hula in downtown Hilo; and
WHEREAS, the annual KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a is a drug-free, alcohol-free, family-friendly event with numerous stages and entertainers positioned around downtown Hilo that attracts residents
from around the island; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Rise Foundation is requesting funds for the costs to construct the stages and for the rental of sound equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that comply with liquor laws at drug-free and alcohol-free community events; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Hawaiʻi Rise Foundation to assist with expenses for the 28th Annual KWXX Ho‘olaule‘a.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
