The Honorable Chairman James Y. Arakaki
And Members of the County Council
County of Hawaii
Hilo, HI 96720
Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Elin T. Walburn of Volcano (CD-6) to the
Hawaii County Ethics Commission, to replace Dr. John T. Masuhara of Hilo (CD-3), who
resigned on February 28, 2000, due to a workload increase in his job as principal of Hilo
High School.
Ms. Walburn is a 14-year resident of Hawaii and since 1986 has been with Teichner,
Walburn Associates and also manages the Lyman Museum Gift Shop since 1998. Her
community activities include membership to the Big Island Industry Association (BIA),
the Hawaii Forestry Industry Association (HFIA), the National Association of Women in
Industry Commission (NAWIC) and the American Cancer Society. She states that she
has no political party affiliation.
If approved, Ms. Walburn will serve the balance of the unexpired term which will end on
December 31, 2000.
Should you have any questions regarding this nomination, you may call me at your
convenience.
Your review and favorable recommendation would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
