COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE GARY AND <br />APOLONIA STICE `OHANA FOUNDATION FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE <br />KU HAWEO PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Swce `Ghana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization that aims to empower local communities through investment in cultural and <br />educational activities that will perpetuate the knowledge, languages, and permanent economic <br />stability of Native Hawaiians and other local cultures; and <br />WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Swce `Ghana Foundation is collaborating with Ke <br />Kula Nd `A`al`i Ku Makani o Ka`u (NAKM) on its Ku Hdweo project; and <br />WHEREAS, NAKM offers place -based, aloha `diva educational experiences grounded <br />in olelo Hawaii, culture, and values; and <br />WHEREAS, NAKM's project, Ku Hdweo, provides Family Child Interaction Learning <br />opportunities to preschool -aged keiki and their `ohana to establish school readiness and lay the <br />foundation for an `61elo Hawaii immersion program in the Ka`u district by conducting <br />engagement activities and workshops twice a month that are free to any interested members of <br />the community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Swce `ohana Foundation is requesting funds to <br />assist with expenses up to June 2025 for the purchase of basic school supplies and food to <br />prepare snacks and meals for both the program participants and volunteers on the event days, as <br />well as printing costs for keiki activities and learning materials for the Ku Hdweo project; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that enrich the <br />lives of community members through alcohol -free and drug -free activities and events; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br />service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Gary and Apolonia Stice `Ohana Foundation for <br />expenses relating to the Ku Hdweo project. <br />
