HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 044 Draft 01 2024-2026 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE GARY AND APOLONIA STICE ʻOHANA FOUNDATION FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE KŪ HĀWEO PROJECT. WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Stice ʻOhana Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to empower local communities through investment in cultural and educational activities that will perpetuate the knowledge, languages, and permanent economic stability of Native Hawaiians and other local cultures; and WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Stice ʻOhana Foundation is collaborating with Ke Kula Nā ʻAʻalʻi Kū Makani o Kaʻū (NAKM) on its Kū Hāweo project; and WHEREAS, NAKM offers place-based, aloha ʻāina educational experiences grounded in ōlelo Hawaiʻi, culture, and values; and WHEREAS, NAKM’s project, Kū Hāweo, provides Family Child Interaction Learning opportunities to preschool-aged keiki and their ʻohana to establish school readiness and lay the foundation for an ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi immersion program in the Kaʻū district by conducting engagement activities and workshops twice a month that are free to any interested members of the community; and WHEREAS, the Gary and Apolonia Stice ʻOhana Foundation is requesting funds to assist with expenses up to June 2025 for the purchase of basic school supplies and food to prepare snacks and meals for both the program participants and volunteers on the event days, as well as printing costs for keiki activities and learning materials for the Kū Hāweo project; and WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that enrich the lives of community members through alcohol-free and drug-free activities and events; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Gary and Apolonia Stice ʻOhana Foundation for expenses relating to the Kū Hāweo project. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General       AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $5,000       OUT AND FROM:    010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $5,000      CREDITED TO:    010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $5,000   Public Programs    115 Misc.
