I have paid attention to the media reports, attended meetings and talked with the professionals involved with these projects to inform myself about what in going on. I believe that these projects would be to the benefit of our community and give these two projects my full support. One has only to study a map of Hilo to see that the proposed roadway and improvements to the existing Mohouli St. would relieve congestion in the downtown Hilo area. Residents living in the mauka areas would be able to by-pass the Waianuenue Ave. and Ponahawaii St. areas and take a more direct route towards the shopping/business areas on the opposite side of Hilo. This would make it more convenient in getting around Hilo and would be time-saving. Similar to the Keaau by-pass road which area residents are happy with, these Mohouli Street projects would help all the citizens of our community. As for those of us who oppose these projects, perhaps they should ask themselves What is the impact on the whole community? and not just what in going on in my own backyard. I would like to be counted as one of those who strongly favors these proposals. Sincerely, Lyn T. Yamano a P.O. Box 10564 Hilo, Hawaii 96721 Comm.
