The County of Hawaii has been awarded $3,600,000 from the United States Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through its Community Project Funding. The purpose
of this grant is to support the assessment, design, repairs, and renovation costs of the old Hilo
Hospital, located at 34 Rainbow Drive in South Hilo.
Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement to accept these funds. Also enclosed is a bill
for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $3,600,000.

A. REQUEST:
The Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) is requesting to amend Ordinance 24-32 by
appropriating the following:
REVENUE:
Community Project Funding Old Hilo Hospital 152.331 O.xx $3,600,000.00
EXPENDITURE:
Community Project Funding Old Hilo Hospital 152.461.5466.xx $3,600,000,00
Please also submit a resolution to authorize the Mayor to execute and submit all required agreements and other
related documents to enter into a multi -year agreement with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The County of Hawaii received written notification that its request for federal grant funding from the US Department of
Housing and Urban Development from its Community Project Funding has been approved,
The federal grant funding will be used to support the assessment, design, repairs, and renovation costs of the Old Hilo
Hospital located at 34 Rainbow Drive in South Hilo,
The ordinance sets up the proper accounts to receive and expend the grant funds,
