Commuting to school, shops, work and relatives have been luxuriously short. In recent years however, it seems that Hilo has experienced considerable growth that has tended to congest our streets. As you are well aware, there are a number of projects in the works to help relieve the current and projected congestion. Of particular interest to me are the Mohouli roadway projects. The lower portion of the project would help to serve as an alternate route to the downtown area. The upper portion of the project would allow more frequent visits to my relatives and my brother in Kaumana. In light of these fantastic planned improvements, I understand there are a number of opponents to these projects. It concerns me that many of the opponents do not live in the affected areas. Such opposition is as ridiculous as Honolulu residences addressing Big Island policies. Another concern that I have is regarding the individuals that will be affected by these planned improvements. Ignorance of the county's plans should not serve as a valid excuse. I remember as a youngster that I had once asked my parents why the houses on Mohouli Street were located so far from the roadway. They told me that the government was planning to improve and lengthen the street in the future. I realize that the Mohouli and Sunrise Ridge residences have a valid concern of increased traffic and my heart goes out to them. In light of the fact that the county has planned these improvements for decades and that the Mohouli improvements will benefit many people, I strongly support the proposed projects. The projects could jump start the downtown economy, provide a safer roadway to the Kaumana area, and promote future residential growth. Please consider the long term benefits and support the Mohouli Street Projects. Thank you, Ty on T. Toyama" 72(~ . DD$ Comm. No. Pile No. ST(Z Her. ~'o: PG xof. Date APR 1 2 20u0
