SUBJECT: Communication No. 47
Appointment of CLAYTON HONMA as Director of Parks and Recreation
I would like to offer my strong support of the appointment of Clayton Honma as the Director of
the Department of Parks and Recreation.
I had the privilege of working with Mr. Honma during his tenure as Deputy and Director of the
Department of Parks and Recreation, a period that saw tremendous opportunities realized with
the opening and enhancement of many recreational facilities throughout the island. I
frequently interacted with Mr. Honma and his staff during this period, and was familiar with the
sheer amount of effort and the persistent drive of Mr. Honma and his hard-working staff to
conceptualize, design, coordinate and implement the construction of these facilities, all done
with the intent to provide wellness and social opportunities to our island communities.
The commitment to achieve these extraordinary goals can only be accomplished with strong
and supportive leadership, which Mr. Honma can bring to the table once again.
For these reasons, I respectfully ask for your support of the appointment of Clayton Honma as
the Director of Parks and Recreation for the County of Hawaii.
