for Youth are extending each of you Aloha and' -,-
gratitude for this moment.
On behalf of the Roots Skate board of directors, we extend our sincere appreciation for your service to
the community. Since our inception in 2008, and the opening of Roots Skatepark's first phase in 2010,
Roots Advocates for Youth has faced significant hurdles in providing accessible and quality recreational
spaces on the Big Island. Our journey has been defined by unwavering dedication and the collaborative
spirit of our volunteers.
This commitment is evident in our contributions beyond Roots Skatepark. We've played a vital hands-on
role in the construction of the Waikoloa and Honokaa Skateparks, demonstrating our commitment to
enriching recreational opportunities across the island. The substantial improvements to the Kapa'au
facility, made possible by the crucial funding secured through the County Council — thanks in large part
to Council Member Margaret Witte (District 9) — stand as a testament to this dedication. The completion
of Roots Skatepark's second phase, opened during the height of the pandemic, provided a vital wellness
resource for all ages, reinforcing our commitment to community health.
Our construction team possesses extensive experience in building world -class skateparks, recently
contributing to the Budapest Olympic qualifying course and the Paris Olympics skatepark. This
expertise ensures that our projects are not only functional but also meet the highest standards of safety
and design.
The support we've received from Hawai'i County district 9 members Tim Richards and Cindy Evans has
been instrumental in allowing us to make significant strides in enhancing Roots Skatepark. We are
immensely grateful for this ongoing partnership and took forward to continuing our collaboration to
create even better recreational facilities for our community. We are particularly eager to leverage this
support to further enhance the Roots Skatepark experience for the benefit of all who utilize it.
