Dear Councilmember Leithead-Todd:
I am writing to inform you of my support for the proposed Mohouli Street Extension and
Widening Projects. These projects are necessary to accommodate the growth of our community
and the change in the business center of our town.
Being born and raised in Hilo (Kaumana) I have witnessed the growth of Hilo town over the past
28 years. Although the population has grown significantly, the infrastructure has, for the most
part, not changed. This is especially true along Waianuenue Avenue/Kaumana Drive. These
projects will alleviate the traffic on Waianuenue Avenue and provide a shorter route for
Kaumana/Ainako residents to travel across town to the Airport or Kuhio Plaza. This is even
more important as the business center of our town has shifted from downtown Hilo to the Plaza
area.
I realize that there are those who are "anti-development" and it is unfortunate that these projects
must impact a handful of property owners. However, a certain amount of infrastructure
improvements are necessary to provide for the needs and safety of our growing community. I
believe that these projects fall under that category, and I am hopeful that I will be driving on the
Mohouli Street extension in the near future.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
VeDry Truly Yours,
~%2~~-
