REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />DATE: January 7, 2025 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Hilo, Hawaii <br />TIME: 2:02 p.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 68/Res. No. 47-25 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 47-25, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 47-25, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication <br />No. 68, dated December 18, 2024, approves the award of funds to various organizations for <br />programs addressing affordable housing by the Office of Housing and Community Development. <br />This resolution allows for grant awards to Hale Ola O Mohouli LLLP ($3,200,000) and Kuakini <br />Family I LP ($5,000,000) for the development of affordable rental units and $5,075,000 to be retained <br />by the Office of Housing and Community Development for the development of 25 single-family <br />dwellings for workforce housing ($4,200,000) and to provide financial assistance to 17 low-income <br />homeowners to conduct essential repair work ($875,000). <br />Housing Administrator Kehaulani Costa and Housing and Economic Development Specialist Royce <br />Shiroma were in Chambers for questions. <br />Ms. Costa provided a brief overview on this matter. <br />Committee Member Holeka Goro Inaba commented in support of this measure. <br />Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 47-25, and <br />recommends its adoption. <br />Ikh <br />AYES <br />NOES <br />ABS <br />EX <br />GALIMBA <br />X <br />HUSTACE <br />X <br />INABA <br />X <br />KAGIWADA <br />X <br />KANEALI`I-KLEINFELDER <br />X <br />KIERKIEW ICZ <br />X <br />KIMBALL <br />X <br />ONISHI <br />X <br />VILLEGAS <br />X <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />MATT KANEAkI`I-KLEINFELDER, <br />• UPO NO.: • <br />ADOPTED: <br />
