No. 52 Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred Communication No. 52, reports as follows: Communication No. 52, transmitted by Mayor C. Kimo Alameda, dated December 10, 2024, requests the Council's review and confirmation of Benson P. Medina as Director of Research & Development. Mayor Alameda was present in the Hilo Chambers to introduce Mr. Medina, who was also present in the Hilo Chambers, to the Committee. Mr. Medina spoke about generational kuleana and shared his top priorities: take care of the employees in his department so that they can do the job they were hired to do, create resources and opportunities in our County, and find out what is the cutting edge of technology and innovation and how will we leverage that for our County. Multiple Committee Members spoke in favor of the appointment. Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 8, Section 6-8.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the Director of Research and Development is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 52, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Benson P.
