Re: Youth Commission Letter of Support to accompany Resolution No. 52-25 Accepting
the Findings and Recommendation of the 2024 Hawaii County Sustainability Summit
Youth Congress on the 2030 Sustainability Goals for the State of Hawaii.
Please see attached letter of support from Eric P6maika`i Gee, the immediate past Chair of the
County of Hawaii Youth Commission, regarding Resolution 2024. Resolution 2024 is the name
that participants of the 2024 Hawaii County Sustainability Summit Youth Congress adopted for
their 2030 Sustainability Goals for the State of Hawaii that are encapsulated within Resolution
No. 52-25.

On the second of May, 2024, the first annual general assembly of the County of Hawaii
Youth Congress was called to order. As I had the honor of hitting the gavel, I saw the passion of
local middle school students light up for the first time. In a Model United Nations format,
students debated topics such as Clean Energy & Transportation, Solid Waste Reduction, Local
Food, and even Green Work Force & Education. They formed the Resolution 2024 in front of
you today. In Hawaii, youth voice and youth representation are everything. We are the catalyst
that will spark the world into the future and create a better home and Hawaii.
The County of Hawaii Youth Commission is proud to have been a part of this process.
We proudly cast our support in favor of Resolution 2024, with reservations; the reservations
being that the Youth Commission is unable to confirm some of the factual data contained within
the Resolution. However, the Youth Commission reiterates its overall support of the Resolution.
On behalf of the County of Hawaii Youth Commission, the County of Hawaii Youth
Congress, and on behalf of Hawai`i's youth, we urge others to support Resolution 2024.
