A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KONA SKATEPARK
ASSOCIATION FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS KEIKI BOWL PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Kona Skatepark Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build and maintain a public skatepark in Kona and to host special public events and
workshops related to board sports and other youth sports in Kona; and
WHEREAS, skateparks have been proven to be a positive, healthy alternative sport for youth, promoting self-confidence, self-esteem, and physical fitness, as well as serving as a creative
space for artistic expression for people of all ages and backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, the Kona Skatepark Association is moving forward with the next phase to expand the Kona Skatepark Keiki Bowl and walk-in section, originally built in 2012 at the Old Kona Airport
Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, the Kona Skatepark Association is requesting funds for construction materials and supplies such as concrete, base rock, rebar, plywood, wire, argon mix, metal stakes, and steel
tubing for the expansion of the Keiki Bowl project; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports the Kona Skatepark Association and its continued efforts to provide a safe and clean Skatepark for Hawaiʻi Island residents and
visitors to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to the Kona Skatepark Association for expenses relating to its Keiki Bowl project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
