REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />DATE: January 21, 2025 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 10:05 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 88/Res. No. 60-25 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 60-25, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 60-25, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication <br />No. 88, dated January 2, 2025, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the United <br />States Department of Homeland Security, pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 46-7, for a <br />grant to the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency. <br />This resolution allows for the receipt of $1,000,000 of federally -derived funds to be used towards the <br />Rural Emergency Medical Communications Demonstration Project, which focuses on enhancing <br />lifeline capabilities in rural communities. <br />Civil Defense Administrator Talmadge Magno appeared in chambers to provide an overview on this <br />measure. <br />Committee Members Holeka Inaba and Ashley Kierkiewicz commented in support and asked that <br />Mr. Magno and his department provide the Council with details on when these demonstrations will be <br />held so the Council can provide that to the community.
