Aloha Chairman Arakaki and Members, Clwn ~ncil
As the President of the Keaukaha Community Association, I am
prepared to submit this letter of support for the proposed name
change of the county facility now called Seven Seas Luau House,
to one which will honor another member of our Native Hawaiian
community.
May I take this opportunity to share with you a brief bit of
FONDNESS about the individual we all affectionately referred to
as "AUNTY SALLY". The Keaukaha Hawaiian home lands community,
appreciates the fact that there will sit side by side, two
facilities, honoring two very special people from our community,
of which there are many, who unselfishly, gave of themselves, to
better the lives of many whom they personally might not have
known, but cared deeply for, first, whose love for, and
understanding of the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture, a
teacher and a source of learning, that being Kumu A'o Edith
Kanakaole, for which this County, as little as three week ago,
has benefited economically, through the host culture, sharing of
the HULA, namely the Merrie Monarch festival. Kumu A'o Edith
Kanakaole, and the venue that bears her name, however was not a
tennis player, but because of her contributions to the teachings
of the Hawaiian language and Hula, that's been held there for
over 25 years, hence the honor to that individual.
Secondly, Aunty Sally's dedication to maintaining ALL these
facilities at Ho'olulu, for the people of this County, although
that was to her a job, much needed to raise and care for her
family, did so with such professionalism and aloha, that as a
frequent visitor to the luau house, she made you feel as though
you were a guest in her own home and BABY, no request was to
unreasonable to try and accommodate those renting and/or using
this facility, for Kupuna programs, weddings, birthdays,
graduations, and including the Merrie Monarch festival craft
show.
We of the Keaukaha Community Association, in the true spirit
of Aloha, request that a technical change be made, if possible,
and wish to solicit your support for the name to be preceded by
t endearing term of "AUNTY" SALLY KAT OHANO' S T UA 1 HALE.
