Dear Hawaii County Council Members,
My wife and I are full-time residents of Hawaii, and part of the Puako community which has donated
$2.5M and countless volunteer hours over the past decade to save Puako Reef by implementing a
sewer system in Puako. The number of families that live in Puako full-time is growing, it is no longer
just a weekend vacation community. We support the confirmation of Mr. Sagawa as Director of DEM
only if he commits to partnering with the Puako community, the Puako for Reefs organization, and the
many partners it has developed through the years, to implement a sewer system in Puako during his
tenure. This is Hawaii, and we need to save our reefs.
