Subject: Communication No. 46 Appointment of Wesley Segawa as Director of the
Department of Environmental Management
We first visited Puako in 2009 as a family and fell in love with the reef, the island and the
peacefulness of Puako. We dreamed of buying a home on Puako E.3each Drive "someday.' During our
visit, we heard from people at the Puako General Store about wanting to improve the health of the
reef. It has always been in our minds since we returned to Puako every year or two since our first
visit.
"Thankfully, in 2020, we realized our dream and are now part of the Puako community. We feel
urgency about the reef now more than ever. As a community, we have donated $2.5M and countless
volunteer hours to save Puako Reef by implementing a sewer system in Puako. NOW is the time, and
r'HIS is the administration that must make it happen. We respectfully ask that Mr. Sagawa commits to
immediately partnering with the Puako community, the Puakofor Reefs organization, and the many
partners it has developed through the years, to implement a sewer system in Puako during his tenure.
1-his is at least the third administration that we have worked with. F.unding has been promised and
then stripped away. We pray that you will find a way to help us protect the ocean and rehabilitate the
reef.,
