Appointment of Renee N.C. Schoen as Corporation Counsel
Dear Chair Inaba and members of the Hawaii County Council,
I write this letter in strong support of Renee Schoen as Corporation Counsel for the
County of Hawai'i. I had the privilege of working with Renee at the Office of the Corporation
Counsel from 2007 to 2015. During those eight (8) years Renee consistently demonstrated not
only exceptional legal skills but also a remarkable ability to find practical solutions to complex
problems.
Renee also has a unique ability to distill complicated legal analysis into clear and
understandable language - a skill not all attorneys possess. Furthermore, she is adept at making
decisions that are not only thoroughly analyzed and well thought out, but also timely and
effective.
Given her prior experience as a Deputy and later as Assistant Corporation Counsel,
Renee understands the responsibilities and challenges faced by the County Council, as well as all
County Departments, Boards, and Commissions.
Renee has always been dedicated to providing the highest quality service to the County,
and there is no doubt that as the Corporation Counsel she will continue to do the same.
