4 LITTLE LEAGUE, INC., TO PURCHASE A PORTABLE PITCHING MOUND FOR LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL GAMES IN WEST HAWAI‘I.
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., is a subordinate organization and chartered member of Little League Baseball, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission
is to teach life lessons that positively impact youth and build strong relationships through the values of community, fun, inclusion, integrity, and teamwork; and
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., provides education, guidance, and direction to the leagues and volunteers and organizes island-wide tournaments that promote the growth
of Little League programs, which gives all children the opportunity to play and possibly advance to state, regional, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, a portable pitching mound is vital for Little League baseball as it ensures proper pitching distances for different age groups, supports training and skill development by simulating
regulation mounds, enhances safety with a cushioned surface, and complies with league rules without permanent infrastructure changes; and
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., is in need of a portable pitching mound that is 18 feet in diameter to be used for all Little League baseball games at the Old Kona Airport
Beach Park in West Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., is requesting funds to purchase a portable pitching mound and to cover the freight charge to ship it from the mainland; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation works in partnership with organizations such as the Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., and is supportive of its efforts to provide
recreational activities for youth in West Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to Hawai‘i District 4 Little League, Inc., to purchase a portable pitching mound for Little League baseball games in West Hawai‘i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
