Dear Chair Inaba and Members of the County Council,
We would like to submit this letter of support for the passage of Resolution 51-25 on
behalf ofthe membership ofthe Havxai'iIsland Housing Coalition.

requirements, pursuant to Section 201H-38 of the Hawai'i Revised Statutes is being requested
for the Hua|e|mi Court Affordable Housing Project in Hilo.
This project would provide for e total of 104affordab|e housing units for local families
with household incomes earning no more than 100% of the area median income level. The
project aoproposed would be constructed within the urban core ofHilo and within proximity tu
employment opportunities, health care and social services, schools, and other basic family
services and needs. Further, the location isalso conductive toand supports multi -modal
transportation given it proximity to those services and needs mentioned.
The Hawai'i Island Housing Coalition is committed to identifying and addressing not only
the barriers and obstacles to increasing the attainable housing unit inventory and supply for our
island residents but also exploring and advocating for potential solutions that may be viable
options for our local families.
In closing I would like to thank you for the opportunity to provide testimony in support
of Resolution 51-25 and respectfully request your consideration and support of this measure
that may provide essential and affordable housing for as many as 104 local families.
