We support Resolution 51-25. Hualalai Court will provide workforce housing for families across Hilo Accessible workforce housing is a chronic need for this community. Half of 96720's renters spend at Least 30% of their income on housing. More than 30% of aLL renters spend at least half of their income on housing.' HiLo and all of Hawaii County need educators, firefighters, nurses, police officers, county workers, program managers, and social workers. Many of these people come from ALICE households. Across our islands, more than two out of every five ALICE (Asset -Limited, Income -Constrained, and Employed) households have expressed worry about needing to leave our state within the next year.' By providing rental housing for 104 families across Hilo in the 80-100% AMI range, this project directly responds to our ALICE families' worries. The natural decline of Hawai'i County's population, driven in large part by the high cost of Living exacerbated by our chronic housing shortage, is a warning sign? Let's not ignore the warning sign. Let's take action. Let's build more workforce housing. We appreciate your consideration of this issue and careful attention to policy.
